ASHANTI MPS DISMISS GABBY OTCHERE-DARKO’S CLAIMS AS FALSE AND MISLEADING

The Ashanti Regional Parliamentary Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly refuted recent comments attributed to Mr. Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, claiming that Members of Parliament from the Ashanti Region chose community roads over flyovers and other major infrastructure projects.

In a statement issued by the caucus, the MPs described the claims as “false, inaccurate, and misleading,” insisting that no such meeting or decision ever took place.

“It is unfortunate and disappointing that such remarks would be made in a manner that seeks to malign and unfairly portray Ashanti MPs,” the statement said. “We wish to place on record that no such meeting ever took place between Ashanti MPs and any person in authority, where such a choice or preference was made.”

The caucus further expressed concern that the remarks could create unwarranted public disaffection toward lawmakers from the region, emphasizing that their focus has always been on ensuring equitable and meaningful development for their constituents.

While acknowledging the significant developmental projects undertaken by successive NPP governments in the Ashanti Region — including the Kejetia Market redevelopment, community road improvements, new school and hospital constructions, and support for local industries under the One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative — the caucus noted that these interventions remain inadequate compared to the region’s contribution to the party’s electoral victories.

“These efforts, while appreciated, remain insufficient when measured against the immense loyalty, support, and contribution of the Ashanti Region to the electoral success of the NPP,” the MPs stressed. “The people of Ashanti have stood unwaveringly with the party, and it is only fair that their loyalty is rewarded with projects that reflect their central role in Ghana’s political and economic development.”

The caucus reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for transformative, high-impact projects in the Ashanti Region, including modern interchanges, flyovers, expressways, and strategic infrastructure that can enhance mobility, trade, and economic growth.

“Ashanti deserves not only community roads but also modern infrastructure capable of driving economic activity and improving the quality of life of its people,” the statement concluded.
