Award-winning Ghanaian-American artist Amaarae has expressed her sorrow and heartfelt condolences following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of several high-profile Ghanaian government officials on the morning of Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
In a statement posted while en route to Sweden for the highly anticipated W.O.W (Women of the World) Festival, the “Sad Girlz Luv Money” hitmaker shared her grief over the loss of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Science and Innovation Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six other government officials and crew members who perished in the crash.
“Otw to Sweden for W.O.W fest and I’m just finding out about the news of what happened in Ghana… My condolences go out to the families of Defense Minister Dr Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohamed and the 6 other officials and crew in a tragic helicopter crash this morning, as well as His Excellency President Mahama, and our entire nation at this difficult time. Sending warmth & love to all of their loved ones,” she wrote.

The crash, which occurred during an official state assignment, has plunged the nation into mourning. In response, President John Dramani Mahama has ordered all national flags to fly at half-mast for a week, with tributes pouring in from leaders, citizens, and the international community.
Amaarae’s message reflects the deep shock and collective heartbreak felt across the country and among the Ghanaian diaspora.
