The African Union Commission has extended its deepest condolences to the Government and people of Ghana following the tragic military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including two senior government ministers.
In a statement issued from Addis Ababa, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, expressed profound sorrow over the incident, which he described as a “national tragedy.” Among those who perished in the crash were Ghana’s Minister for Defence, Hon. Edward Omane Boamah, and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.
“The African Union stands in full solidarity with Ghana in mourning this profound loss,” the Chairperson stated. “May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace.”

The Chairperson offered heartfelt condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the Government of Ghana, the bereaved families, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the National Democratic Congress, to which the two ministers belonged. The statement also acknowledged the service and sacrifice of all those lost in the crash, which has shaken the nation and drawn tributes from across the continent.
This expression of solidarity from the continental body adds to the growing list of international and national leaders paying tribute to the lives lost in the tragedy, underscoring the deep impact the event has had both within and beyond Ghana’s borders.
The African Union has pledged to stand with Ghana through this difficult period.
