President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including two senior Ghanaian Cabinet Ministers.
In a heartfelt message of condolence shared on Wednesday, Dr. Adesina described the incident as a “devastating news and national tragedy.” Among the victims were Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who were on official duty when the crash occurred.
“I am deeply saddened by the helicopter crash today that led to the loss of lives of 8 people, including Ghana’s Defense Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed,” Dr. Adesina stated.

AfDB Stands With Ghana
Offering solidarity on behalf of himself, his wife Grace Adesina, and the entire staff, Management, and Boards of Directors of the AfDB, Dr. Adesina extended condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the bereaved families, and the people of Ghana.
“At this time of national grief and mourning, my wife Grace and I and the African Development Bank’s staff, Management and Boards of Directors commiserate with President @JDMahama of Ghana, the bereaved families and the whole of the Government of Ghana.”
Prayers for Strength and Comfort
Dr. Adesina prayed for strength and comfort for the affected families and the nation, urging Ghanaians to find resilience in the face of tragedy.
“May God grant you and the affected families much fortitude and comfort. May the souls of the departed rest in peace.”
The condolence message from the head of one of Africa’s leading financial institutions joins a growing list of international sympathies pouring in as Ghana observes a period of national mourning. The government has ordered flags to fly at half-mast, and tributes continue to flood in from leaders across Africa and beyond.
