Adaklu DCE engages Waya community on roads, schools, and development

Mr. Jerry Ameka, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Adaklu, on Tuesday, held a community engagement at Adaklu Waya to deliberate on pressing developmental issues.

The issues included education, infrastructure, and social services in the district.

The meeting, attended by residents, traditional leaders, and opinion leaders, offered a platform for the community to interact directly with the DCE, who represented government and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Adaklu Constituency and Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr. Governance Kwame Agbodza.

In his remarks, Mr. Ameko acknowledged the government’s continuous support and commended the MP for his role in securing projects and interventions that were gradually transforming the district.

He assured the gathering that their concerns would remain a priority on the development agenda.

Education featured prominently in the discussions, with the DCE expressing worry about the poor performance of schools in the district.

He stressed the need for stakeholder engagements to instill discipline in homes, schools, and communities as part of measures to improve outcomes.

“Education is the foundation of every community’s progress. We must commit to discipline and collaboration if we are to improve the results of our schools,” he said.

On stalled infrastructure, Mr. Ameko announced that the MP, through the GETFund, was working to ensure the completion of abandoned projects at Adaklu Senior High School (Adasec).

He added that similar development efforts would be extended to Gbekor Senior High School.

He also revealed that plans were underway to construct a headteacher’s bungalow at Adasec and teachers’ bungalows at both Adasec and Gbekor SHS. According to him, these facilities would serve as motivation and ensure the retention of quality teaching staff in the district.

Road development was another major subject of concern.

The DCE explained that the government was committed to improving the district’s road network. He assured residents that consultations would continue to address issues around compensation for properties that might be affected by road construction.

The DCE further disclosed plans to establish daycare centres in basic schools across the district, with the aim of easing the burden on working parents and ensuring early childhood education. Existing daycare centres, he said, would be upgraded and better equipped to provide a conducive learning environment.

In addition, he announced preparations for the establishment of a new school at Gbagbedeve to improve access to education and guarantee safety for children who previously had to travel long distances to attend school.

The DCE stressed that the initiatives were designed to create equal opportunities and enhance social services in underserved communities across the district.

Mr. Eugene S.K. Akpatsa, Assembly Member for Adaklu-Waya Electoral Area, described the engagement as a significant step toward addressing the developmental challenges of the district.

He praised both the DCE and the MP for their collaborative efforts in promoting the progress of Adaklu.

While commending the government for the development of the area, Mr. Akpatsa urged the authorities to ensure that promises made were translated into tangible outcomes. “The people are hopeful that these initiatives will come to fruition to bring the needed relief to our communities,” he said.

The engagement ended with an open forum, where residents raised additional concerns and pledged their support to collaborate with authorities in driving sustainable development for the Adaklu District.
