Abutia Traditional Council pays courtesy call on Volta Regional Minister

A delegation from the Abutia Traditional Council has paid a courtesy call on the Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, at the Residency in Ho to extend their congratulations and draw attention to key developmental challenges facing their communities.

The delegation was led by the Ho West District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Francis Profer Dusey, and included chiefs and elders of Abutia.

In their discussions, the delegation highlighted several pressing concerns such as; The poor condition of roads linking Abutia to other parts of the district has hampered transportation, access to markets, and socioeconomic development.

They said many communities in Abutia continue to struggle with limited access to potable water, posing health risks and affecting daily life.

The leaders also emphasised the urgent need to protect the Kalakpa Resource Reserve from encroachment, illegal logging, and other activities that threaten its ecological and economic value.

Mr. Gunu commended the delegation for their unity of purpose and assured them that the government attaches great importance to these concerns.

He noted that improving rural road networks and water supply remain critical priorities under the government’s broader development agenda for the Volta Region.

On the issue of environmental protection, the Regional Minister emphasised the government’s commitment to safeguarding natural reserves, saying the Kalakpa Reserve is a national asset that must be preserved for future generations.

He assured the chiefs that his office would engage relevant agencies to address the encroachment challenges.

Mr. Gunu further encouraged the traditional authorities to continue collaborating with the District Assembly, security agencies, and development partners to accelerate progress in the area.

The visit, he noted, reflects the positive partnership between traditional leadership and government in promoting peace, development, and the welfare of communities across the region.
