Government secures $741m in US dollar-denominated bonds exchange

The government has secured a total of US$741,734,252 at the end of the US dollar-denominated bonds exchange programme, representing 91 per cent of the approximately $809 million. The exchange programme forms part of the government’s effort to help restore sound public finance and return debt to sustainable levels to propel economic growth and stability. It is to also contribute to efforts to unlock support of the international community and allow Ghana to achieve its debt targets under the current US$3 billion loan-support programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Government to rewire markets in Accra after Odawna fire – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo has promised that government will rewire of major markets in Accra. This follows a fire outbreak at the Odawna market in the early hours of Wednesday. The President addressing the traders after he went to see the damage caused by the fire and commiserated with them. “Government will undertake a project of rewiring all major markets in the capital to prevent such incident from happening,” he said. Akufo-Addo’s gov’t outlines achievements in teacher transformation

Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Education, says the Akufo-Addo-led administration as part of its achievements in the teacher upgrade, welfare and quality education, has upgraded Colleges of Education to University Colleges. He said the government had also abolished the three-month pay policy, improved promotion system with an aptitude test, reinstated the teacher trainee allowance and increased the Book and Research allowance by 200 per cent from GHS500 to GHS1,500.
