Asante Kotoko rides to the top of the GPL after Chelsea win

Asante Kotoko scored two goals in either half to beat Berekum Chelsea 2-0 on match day 19 of the Ghana Premier League at the Obuasi Len Clay stadium Sunday. The Porcupine Warriors drew first blood through Francis Andy Kumi who shrugged off a fierce challenge to slot home the opener – his second goal in two starts, after receiving a beautiful pass from Mudasiru Salifu in the 29th minute. The two teams played very tight and compact making life extremely difficult at both ends to end the first half 1-0 in favour of Asante Kotoko. Berekum Chelsea were awarded a penalty two minutes into the second half after a foul in the box by Mubarik Yussif – But Bright Amponsah sent the kick flying into the stands - a sigh for the players and technical team of Kotoko. Families in shock after hotel death of Nelli Tembe, fiancée of AKA

The family of Anele “Nelli” Tembe and well-known musician Kiernan “AKA” Forbes have confirmed the death of the musician's girlfriend at the five-star Pepperclub Hotel in central Cape Town on Sunday. Tembe apparently fell from the 10th floor of the hotel early on Sunday morning. “We are still in shock and dealing with our emotions, as she was an exceptional and gifted young woman with so much life ahead of her,” the families said in a joint statement issued on Sunday afternoon. “She had a sweet nature about her and was always nurturing to those about her.” Police were on the scene for much of Sunday, looking for clues at the upmarket hotel. Another Akan Presidential candidate in 2024 May Create A Worst Political Image for NPP: Razak Kojo Opoku Writes

In the interest of the future survival and generational dominance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ghana, it is very prudent and justifiable for the delegates of NPP to totally and wholly REJECT any Akan Presidential aspirant during the party’s presidential primaries in 2022/2023.  The Presidential hopefuls with Akan background should do the needful and completely freeze their personal ambition and rally behind non-Akan Presidential hopefuls for the purpose of breaking the Akanfour tag which has been hanging around the neck of the Party since J. B. Danquah days. Per the research conducted, the Akanfour Party's tag is making it extremely difficult for NPP to have a fair share dominance of the Parliamentary seats especially in the constituencies predominantly inhabited by non-A...

Mum accused of stabbing her three children to death including six-month-old baby

A mother is accused of fatally stabbing her three young children, including a six-month-old baby, after their bodies were found inside the family home. Police had launched a manhunt for triple murder suspect Liliana Carrillo, 30, after the children's grandmother returned from work at 9.30 am on Saturday and found their bodies in an apartment in Los Angeles. The children - a six-month-old baby, two-year-old toddler and a three-year-old - died at the scene. Carrillo was missing, sparking a state-wide search that ended with her arrest hours later in Ponderosa, a city 180 miles away, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said. Shocked neighbour Mishal Hashima told CBS News: “It’s so sad. Three children under the age of three. What kind of person can do that?” T...

China fines Alibaba $2.8 billion after antitrust investigation

China has hit Alibaba, one of the country’s biggest online retailers, with a record $2.8 billion (18.2 billion yuan) fine, after an investigation found the ecommerce giant violated China’s anti-monopoly law, The New York Times reported. The fine, which represents 4 percent of Alibaba’s 2019 domestic sales, is three times higher than the $975 million fine China imposed on US chip company Qualcomm back in 2015. The Chinese government launched an investigation into Alibaba in December to determine whether the company was preventing merchants from selling their products on other platforms. China’s market regulator found that Alibaba’s practices had a negative effect on online retail competition and innovation. Alibaba used data and algorithms to strengthen its own p...

Mum-of-three who filmed herself having sex with schoolboy, 14, jailed

A mum-of-three who had sex with a schoolboy after swapping messages on Snapchat has been jailed for two years and nine months. Contact between vile Sophie Hindmarch, then aged 26, and the 14-year-old escalated to include sexualised images and videos, Carlisle Crown Court heard. The court heard how Hindmarch had sexual activity with her victim, who can't be named, between November 1, 2019 and December 26, 2019. Prosecutor Hugh McKee said the schoolboy had estimated he and Hindmarch had met at her home to have sex between 10-13 times, the Daily Mail reports. On one occasion, Hindmarch used her mobile phone to film herself having sex with the schoolboy, a court heard. The abuse finally came to light when the 14-year-old told his dad what had happened. NBA: Andre Drummond stars as depleted LA Lakers beat Brooklyn Nets

The LA Lakers beat the Brooklyn Nets 126-101 despite missing five players and seeing Dennis Schroder ejected in the second half. Andre Drummond scored 20 points for the Lakers and Schroder registered 19 before he and opponent Kyrie Irving were removed. The Lakers are missing Anthony Davis through a calf strain and LeBron James, who watched from the sidelines. "I learned that we have a lot of guys that are very tough," Drummond said. "Despite who's on the other side of the court, they're going to come out and play." Irving scored 18 points in the first half for the Nets but was left furious after he and Schroder were ejected for a double-technical foul. The 29-year-old had to be escorted off the floor and threw his jersey into the stands as he left. Elsewhere, the ...

Liberty Professionals whitewash Elmina Sharks in Sogakope

Liberty Professionals put their troubles behind them to beat Elmina Sharks 4-0 on match day 19 of the Ghana Premier League at the Red Bull arena in Sogakope on Saturday. The Dansoman lads who went into the game with a blemish record of winning only one game in six attempts, this time came out unscathed against Elmina Sharks. The game was played in Sogakope due the revocation of the match venue license of the Carl Reindorf Park by the club Licensing Board. After a balanced exchange in the opening half of the game, Paul Kwame gave his side the lead inside 36 minutes with towering header. The forward soared above the Elmina Sharks defence to head home the opener against the run of play as Liberty headed into the break with a slim lead. Back from recess, Liberty Professionals com...
