Ghana faces Benin in the first round of CHAN qualifiers

The draw for the Championship of African Nations qualifiers was held in Cairo on Thursday, May 27, 2022. Ghana has been paired with Benin in the first round of the qualifiers in the Western Zone B, with the winner set to face Nigeria in the final round of the qualifiers. The seeding system for the tournament was based on the results of the last three editions of the CHAN tournaments. The Black stars B will be hoping to qualify for the tournament slated for Algeria in January 2023 after missing out on the last editions. Coach Annor Walker’s side will host Benin in the first leg encounter on the weekend of July 22-24 with the return fixture slated for the weekend of July 29-31, 2022. The Black Stars B finished 2nd in Cote D’Ivoire 2009 and South Africa 2014.

Black Stars to use Accra and Cape Coast stadiums for World Cup qualifiers

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has approved the Accra and Cape Coast stadiums for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Qualifiers. According to the continental governing body the decision was based on the assessment of an updated report submitted by the Ghana Football Association (GFA). The two stadiums will be further evaluated on matchdays through the CAF Match Command Center (MCC). In the event that organizational and stadium technical infractions are noted by the designated CAF officials during matches, financial sanctions may be imposed on the GFA as per the established CAF grid for lack of technical facilities in the stadium. Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers postponed

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers for the June International window. This was contained in a letter signed by CAF Deputy General Secretary in charge of football and development, Anthony Baffoe. “The reasons of the postponement were based on the actual conditions of certain stadiums in Africa and the restrictions related to COVID-19. “The 1st round will now take place in the FIFA window of 18-26 October and the 2nd round will take place in the FIFA window of February 14-23, 2022” the letter read. Ghana was scheduled to play against sworn rivals Nigeria in June 2021 for a ticket to the 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations.
