Cape Coast to Experience Planned Power Outage on January 8 for Major Substation Upgrade
Residents of Cape Coast and surrounding communities in the Central Region will experience a planned power outage on Thursday, January 8, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to improve electricity supply reliability in the area.
According to a joint statement from the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition and the Ghana Grid Company Ltd. (GRIDCo), the interruption in power supply will occur from 6:00am to 10:00pm. The outage is necessary to enable GRIDCo engineers to replace an existing 33MVA transformer at the Cape Coast Substation with a new, higher-capacity 66MVA transformer.
