Man who attacked Comoros president dies in cell

Azali Assoumani served as African Union president between 2023 and 2024 The man who was arrested for attacking the Comoros president with a knife on Friday has been found dead in prison, the authorities there say. The attack took place during a funeral for a well-known religious leader and injured President Azali Assoumani's hand.  National prosecutor Ali Mohamed Djounaid said that after being arrested the attacker had been isolated in a cell to calm him down.  He said a lifeless body was found lying on the floor of the cell on Saturday morning. Daniel Amartey out of Ghana team to face Comoros

Ghana defender Daniel Amartey has failed a late fitness test for the FIFA World Cup qualifier against Comoros. The Turkey based player limped out of the game against Madagascar on Friday in Kumasi after a suspected hamstring injury and was left out of training in Moroni on Sunday. Although MRI scans did not reveal any obvious injury, his clinical progress as monitored by the medical team has been rather slow, making him unavailable for the Black Stars ahead of the FIFA World Cup qualifier against Comoros. Amartey, a former Leicester City player who started the opening game in Kumasi was later replaced by Kasim Nuhu.

Baba Yara Sports stadium to host Ghana vs. Madagascar World Cup qualifier

Ghana will open her 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign against Madagascar at the Baba Yara Sports stadium in Kumasi. According to FIFA, the game is scheduled for 16:00Hrs kick off on Friday, November 17, 2023. The Black Stars will be aiming to kick start the World Cup qualifying campaign on a good note in their quest for another appearance on the World Cup having made it to the last edition in Qatar 2022. Ghana last beat Madagascar 3-0 in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Cape Coast stadium in June 2022 and will be looking forward to another victory over the East Africans. Mohammed Kudus, Felix Afena Gyan and Osman Bukari netted for Ghana in the 3-0 win.
