High turn in MTN Ghana blood donation campaign in Tamale

Residents in the Tamale Metropolis turned out in large numbers to donate blood as part of the MTN Ghana Foundation’s “Save a Life” campaign to donate blood to replenish the country’s blood bank.The exercise, which was held simultaneously at Vittin Senior High School (SHS), Tamale SHS, Business SHS, and Tamale Campus of the University for Development Studies, saw staff of MTN Ghana, MTN Ghana trade partners and some members of the public take their turns to donate blood.All the blood donors underwent basic health check and counselling to ensure that they were fit to donate blood.Mr Collins Agyei, Area Sales Manager, Northern Regions, MTN Ghana, who spoke to the media about the exercise in Tamale, expressed MTN Ghana’s commitment to improving health care delivery in the country.The “Save a ...

MTN collects 300 pints of blood at Awudome, St. Paul’s Senior High Schools

Students of the Awudome Senior High School in the Ho West District and the St. Paul’s Senior High in the Ketu North Municipality have supported Mobile Telecommunications Network Company (MTN)’s Valentine's Day blood donation initiative. The exercise realised 200 pints of blood at the Awudome school, While the Ketu North establishment donated 100 to restock the Regional blood Bank as Valentine obligation. GNFS organizes blood donation exercise

The Ashaiman Division of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has undertaken its first blood donation exercise to check the health status of service personnel and help restock the blood bank at the Tema General Hospital. Voluntary blood donation dropped by 21 per cent due to COVID-19

The National Blood Service, Ghana (NBSG) has recorded a 21 per cent decline in total blood collections and supply per last year’s record for January to May.  Dr Justina Ansah, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Blood Service,who attributed the situation to the COVID-19 crisis, explained that the totalunits of blood collected for the first five months of last year was 73,063.However, this declined to 57,268 for this year. The CEO announced this at an event held on a virtual platform tocommemorate the 2020 World Blood Donor Day, in Accra.  The Day is observed annually on June 14 to express appreciation to voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gift of blood.
