Ghana Armed Forces Suspends Recruitment Exercise in Greater Accra Following Fatal Incident

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced a temporary suspension of its ongoing 2025/2026 recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region following a tragic incident at the El-Wak Sports Stadium on Wednesday morning.

In an official statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Navy, the Armed Forces expressed deep regret over the fatal incident, which occurred during the screening process at the stadium.

According to the statement, the suspension aims to allow authorities to implement additional safety and organizational measures to ensure a seamless and secure continuation of the exercise.

A Board of Inquiry has also been established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate event and to make recommendations to prevent a recurrence.

Meanwhile, the recruitment process in the other 15 regions across the country will continue as planned.

“The Armed Forces deeply regrets any inconvenience this suspension may have caused the general public, particularly affected applicants,” the statement read. “Applicants will be informed of the date of resumption of the process later.”

The Ghana Armed Forces extended its condolences to the families of those affected by the incident and reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a fair and safe recruitment process nationwide.
