A tragic accident occurred in the early hours of today at Amanase, along the Accra-Kumasi Highway, involving a DAF XF trailer and a Mercedes Sprinter bus. The incident, which happened around 5:49 AM, prompted a swift response from the Suhum Municipal Fire Command following a distress call.
According to reports, the DAF trailer (registration number GR 1300-16) was traveling toward Accra when it veered off its lane and collided head-on with the Sprinter bus (GW 6510-23) heading to Kumasi.
Firefighters who arrived on the scene managed to rescue three victims who were trapped in the wreckage. These individuals were immediately handed over to the Ambulance Service for urgent medical attention. Additionally, six other bodies were retrieved from the crash and handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation.
Preliminary data reveals a total of 16 casualties — comprising 6 females and 8 males. Sadly, 11 people have been confirmed dead, including 2 females and 9 males.
The Sprinter bus was completely destroyed in the collision, while the DAF trailer sustained partial damage.
The Eastern Regional PRO confirmed the incident and assured the public that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident.
