Beyonce Writes Letter to Kentucky Attorney General Calling for Action Against Officers in Breonna Taylor Case

Beyonce is ready to see some action. The GRAMMY winner revealed on her website on Sunday that she has sent a letter to Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, demanding criminal charges against the three police officers involved in Breonna Taylor's death.  Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT, was fatally shot by the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) on March 13. Three plainclothes officers executing a no-knock search warrant entered her apartment in Louisville, Kentucky. Taylor's boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, said he believed the officers were intruders, and gunfire was exchanged between him and the LMPD. Officers fired over 20 shots into the apartment, including eight shots at Taylor, who was asleep and unarmed when LMPD entered her residence.  "While 'Breonna's Law' pa...

Fish oil supplements ‘may help adults with depression’

Fish oil supplements could be used to help treat clinical depression in adults, researchers report. Scientists from the University of Illinois at Chicago made the discovery while studying the impacts of different medications on patient-derived stem cells. © Provided by Cover Media The team analysed skin cells from two types of adult patients - those who had previously responded to anti-depressant treatment and those who had been resistant to medication - and the cells were then converted into stem cells and developed into nerve cells. And when fish oil was tested, cells from both groups responded in a similar way to that of prescription medication. Professor Mark Rasenick, principal investigator of the study, said the discovery will hopefully enable future research to deter...

Tourism returns timidly and cautiously to Cancun

Maria Eugenia Sanchez and Sebastian Fernandez basked in the brilliant Cancun sunshine having snapped up a deal as part of the Mexican seaside resort's reopening following three months of coronavirus lockdown. "We wanted to leave the country this year and go to Europe, but due to this situation with the lockdown and (lack of) money it wasn't possible. So we decided to take advantage of the deals and come to Cancun for a few days," Sanchez told AFP. The couple, both of whom are in their 30s and work in a law firm in Mexico City, spent $80 on their airfare, around $100 less than the normal cost. "We've come to relax, to free ourselves from stress after so much tension and uncertainty," said Fernandez, who was working remotely while in Cancun. They were among the few tourists to a...

Can stress cause dandruff? Derms say: Unfortunately, yes

I try not to spend too much time inspecting my scalp (seriously, you never know what you might find up there). Now that the time afforded by quarantine has re-inspired my skin-care routine, though, I have allowed myself a peek or two at my side part. What I've found are flakes, flakes, and more flakes—and some high-level Googling tells me that the stress of COVID-19 might be to blame for my dandruffy scalp. Hair-care brand Head and Shoulders explains that dandruff comes from a fungal microbe called malassezia globosa that always lives on your head, but multiplies when you present certain symptoms of stress. “Stress can have far-reaching effects on the body, and many skin conditions, including dandruff, often flare during stressful times," says Maggie Kober, MD, a te...
