Prosper Narteh laments lack of goals

Prosper Narteh lamented Asante Kotoko’s profligacy in front of goal as he reflected on his side’s 1-1 draw with RTU on Wednesday evening.

The Head Coach felt the Porcupines played according to plan, but were done by their inability to convert the chances that came their way.

Ibrahim Imoro scaled a long-range shot a whisker of the post, Frank Etuoga had a close-range shot blocked as George Mfegue saw a goal-bound shot graze the side net.

Frank Etuoga again shot feebly into the hands of the RTU keeper from an advantageous position before Abdul Ganiyu missed a penalty at the death of the half.

There was a relief for us in the second half when Etuoga put us in front a minute after the restart.

RTU levelled up in the 70th minute after Stephen Amankona had missed the post narrowly in the 57th minute, and after we were denied a penalty following an intense push and pull on Sarfo Taylor, it became evident that the game was headed for a draw.

“I am not disappointed”, Prosper Narteh told reporters after the game. “We played well, we created a lot of chances which we could have scored but football is a game of chances. When you take your chances and solidify the middle of the field and protect your goal, but out of nothing they scored and that is the nature of the game”.

“In terms of performance, we are doing well. We are creating a lot of chances but we are not taking our chances and that is the unfortunate aspect.”

The result meant that the Porcupines, after winning their first four games of the season, have gone three games without a win, drawing twice and losing once.

“We would have won all the games that we drew and also lost if we took our chances”, explained Prosper Narteh.

We missed the services of influential players Isaac Oppong, Mudasiru Salifu, Samuel Boateng and Andrews Appau, but Prosper Narteh thought their absence did not affect the result.

“Looking at the game we played, we didn’t miss them. Of course, they would have added something to the team but we didn’t miss them.”
