The former President, John Dramani Mahama has once again taken a swipe at President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his management of the economy which he says has brought “hardship in the country.” Mr. Mahama is of the view that the COVID-19 pandemic has become the convenient excuse for President Akufo-Addo and the NPP government for their mismanagement of the economy. The 2020 Presidential Candidate for the NDC, speaking at the NDC Professionals Forum on Monday, September 6, 2021, at the Cedi Conference Centre of the University of Ghana, said even though the pandemic has affected the economy, it is not the main reason for the hardships Ghanaians are currently facing. The Deputy Minister of Finance, also Member of Parliament for Ejisu, John Kumah has taken a swipe at former President John Dramani Mahama after claiming the country’s economy is collapsing. According to him, “I think John Mahama has realised things won’t fare well for him in 2024 that is why he is making unfortunate comments about the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government”. “He felt we could not accomplish our Free Senior High school promise, so after seeing the policy flourishing and with the commencement of the agenda 111 hospital project, he has realised that his campaign for next election has hit the rocks”. Neighbouring Pakistan has deep ties with the Taliban and has been accused of assisting the Islamist group's return to power - charges it denies. "The Islamic government is shooting at our poor people," one panic-stricken woman on the street says over sounds of gunfire in a video clip shown on Iranian television news. There were no immediate reports of injuries, however. The Taliban's rapid advance across Afghanistan as U.S. forc...

Teenage pregnancies: Our babies are making babies – Joyce Bawa writes

Found some really chilling statistics about teenage pregnancies across the country, while preparing for a radio programme last week. We must all support the call for the development of a policy that will help prevent and stem the rising risk of teenage pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases and its attendant social issues. And this must be urgent! We are already in torrid times, with a myriad of social problems- unemployment, insecurity, a struggling economy coupled with a pandemic, among others. Quite unfortunately our youth are getting caught up in yet another quandary. Even without considering the times we are in, and our dire economic circumstances, without question, our children, barely babies themselves, have no business making babies. Falling educational standar...
