Confiscated rosewood containers handed over to National Security

Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources has handed over 13 impounded containers of Rosewood to the National Intelligence Bureau(NIB) in Tema. Estimated at $234,000 or over GHS1.4 million, the 13 containers of Rosewood imported into Ghana from Nigeria, suspected for onward export to an overseas destination, were impounded at the Tema Port. Despite a ban by the government in March 2019 on the harvesting, transportation, importation and exportation of the endangered tree species in the country, extended in February 2020, the 20-cubic meter containers of Rosewood were illegally imported into the country. NPP government will perform “much better” in four years-CDD Report

A significant minority of Ghanaians believe President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s Government will perform “much better or better” in public or social service delivery in the next four years, Center for Democratic Development Ghana (CDD-Ghana) 2020 Post-Election Survey Findings have said. Detained Rwandan hip-hop star Jay Polly dies

One of Rwanda’s most famous rappers, Jay Polly, has died at the age of 33 in a hospital in Kigali. The artist was in jail awaiting trial on drug charges, and was rushed to hospital early on Thursday. In a statement, the Rwanda Correctional Service, which is in charge of prisons, said the musician had consumed a mixture of methanol disinfectant, sugar and water before he was rushed to hospital. Jay Polly was arrested at his home in April after holding a party in violation of coronavirus rules. His brother, Maurice Uwera, said the Rwanda Correctional Service had informed him about the death without giving further details. Dock labourer sentenced for attempting to stowaway

The Ashaiman Circuit Court has sentenced Emmanuel Atinga, a labourer with the Ghana Dock Labour Company to a fine of GHC2,400.00 or in default serve a four-month jail term for attempting to stowaway to Belgium. The court presided over by Mrs. Eleanor Kakra Banes Botchway sentenced the accused after he pleaded guilty to the charge of stowaway contrary to section 179(1) of Ghana Shipping Act 2003 (ACT 645). Gbetsiley Driver butchers wife to death

Thomas Kontoh, a Commercial Driver at Gbetsiley Soldier in Kpone-Katamanso Municipality has butchered his wife, Lydia Amponsah to death in the early hours of Tuesday. Kontoh believed to be in his late 40s allegedly butchered the wife who was also in her early 40s at their residence and thereafter allegedly committed suicide by hanging on a nearby tree. According to police report available to the Ghana News Agency in Tema, Kontoh, the deceased before committing suicide inflicted several machete wounds on Lydia in addition to chopping off both ears, and cutting open her mouth.
