Member of Parliament(MP) for Anyaa-Sowutuom constituency, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi has called for early negotiations between the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) and government to avoid any industrial action by the doctors. Tokyo 2020: President Akufo-Addo rewards Samuel Takyi with $30,000 and a car

President Akufo-Addo has announced that Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist, Samuel Takyi will be given a car, $10,000 in cash for his efforts at the Olympic Games, plus a further $20,000 to be put in a career development fund for him. The President made the announcement when Ghana’s contingent for the Tokyo Olympic Games called on him at the Jubilee House in Accra on Friday 20th August, 2021. In addition, each member of Ghana’s 14-athlete contingent will also receive an amount of $5,000 for their efforts at the games. All the athletes and officials for the games were also given medals by the president in appreciation of their performance at the games. Scam Alert: EOCO cautions workers

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has cautioned salaried workers on the current scams targeting them. EOCO said it had in recent times received a number of complaints from salaried workers, who had fallen victims to these individuals. A statement issued in Accra, and signed by Madam Faustina Lartey, Head of Public Relations on behalf of the Executive Director,  EOCO said these scammers were attempting to take advantage of people who may be struggling financially. It said these “unscrupulous” individuals called and sent text messages promising loans at affordable rates and promising to coach individuals to secure loans for a fee. UN supports FOREST Okyeman with $2.3 million dollar grant

Dr Charles Abani, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Ghana, has announced a 2.3-million-dollar grant in support of the Fostering Reforestation, Environmental Sustainability and Tourism in the Okyeman Area (FOREST Okyeman). The grant is to support biodiversity conservation in five of the 14 districts of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area in the Eastern Region. The amount is made up of one million dollars from the UN Human Security Trust Fund to implement development initiatives together with the Okyeman Environment Foundation and other stakeholders. Cocobod expects record production of 1.06 million tonnes for 2020/21 season

Ghana Cocoa Board expects production to reach 1.06 million tonnes for the 2020/21 season, the Chief Executive Mr Joseph Boahen Aidoo, said on Thursday. He said with six weeks to the end of the season, the Board had recorded 1.033 million tonnes, beating the previous record of 1.024 million metric tonnes in the 2010/ 2011 crop season. Access Bank posts strong performance in first quarter

The Access Bank has recorded an impressive growth in its financial performance for the first half of the year. It recorded a net interest income growth from GH¢188 million to GH¢218 million, while profit before tax grew from GHS 193 million to GHS 216 million year-on-year. Motorcycles 182 involved in accidents in Tema

About 182 Motorcycles were involved in road accidents between January and June in the Tema enclave making it an average of 30 incidents monthly; the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD), Ghana Police Service has revealed. The statistics indicate that in the first quarter, motorcycles which included; tricycles and bicycles, 99 were involved in accidents; and 83 in the second quarter.
