Stewart Downing announces retirement from football

Stewart Downing has announced his retirement from football at the age of 37. The winger ends a 20-year professional career that saw him make 725 club appearances and play 35 times for England, where he was a part of the squads for the 2006 World Cup and Euro 2012. He most recently spent a two-year spell with Championship club Blackburn, before leaving Ewood Park at the end of June when his contract expired. Reshuffle hits Ghana Police Service as new IGP takes office

The Acting Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has on his first day at work, reorganised the police service through transfers and new responsibilities. The new changes take effect from August 1, 2021, according to a circular signed by Dr Dampare. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Samuel Kwasi Ofori, In-charge (i/c) of Operations, Greater Accra Region, is now the Public Affairs Director (PAD) General of the Ghana Police Service (GPS). Police Constable Stabbed at Damongo

A Police Constable (name withheld) has been found dead at her residence at Damongo in the Savannah region on 2nd August 2021. A police release stated that the deceased was found in a pool of blood with wounds believed to be knife stabs. Her body has since been deposited at the West Gonja district hospital pending investigation. The Police have identified her boyfriend as the suspect and are currently on a manhunt for him. President Akufo-Addo has hinted of plans on expanding the Free-SHS policy to the tertiary level to ensure that the access to education is achieved under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
