Head coach of Kumasi based Asante Kotoko Mariano Barreto has explained why he chose Kwame Baah over first choice goalkeeper Razak Abalora Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Hearts of Oak.
The Portuguese coach started Kwame Baah ahead of Razak Abalora who has played in almost all Asante Kotoko games in the Ghana Premier league this season.
When asked why the former WAFA shot stopper was left out for the former Inter Allies man Barreto had this to say.
“We think we lost because of the goalkeeper? Kwame Baah did a good job today”
“I have three good goalkeepers and I can use who I think is the best for this game, that’s all” he concluded.
Abalora’s absence was a bit of a surprise to many fans who were expecting to see the former Azam man in post like he has been doing in most games.
Goalkeeping position has not been a problem for Asante Kotoko, the club can boast of top four national goalkeepers which has made selection at that department a tough task for coaches at the club.
The decision to keep four national goalkeepers at the club and how to rotate them to give them enough playing time has been an issue yet to settle by the Porcupine Warriors.
The Reds currently have Felix Annan as a Black Star goalkeeper, Razak Abalora also a Black Star keeper, Kwame Baah a Black Meteors goalkeeper and on loan Danlad Ibrahim who is Black Satellites and Black Stars shot stopper.
