Ofosu-Bator M/A Basic School pupils study under trees

School pupils of Ofosu-Bator M/A Basic school, a fishing community in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region, are forced to study under trees due to lack of infrastructure. The school has no classrooms, staff common room, learning materials, including texts books, ICT laboratory and desks, denying the pupils the conducive environment and peace of mind needed for their studies. A visit by Ghana News Agency (GNA) saw some pupils sitting on a borehole platform constructed under the tree used for the academic work because of lack of desk. FDA clears Takoradi Market of formalin use

The Western Regional Directorate of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA)  has cleared the Takoradi Market of the use of formalin, a chemical for preserving corpses in mortuaries. Mr Solomon Kwabena Boni, Regional Information Officer at the Western Regional Office of the FDA, told the GNA that a search to ascertain whether the traders used the chemical was not conclusive.He enlightened that when formalin was present in the air, it could cause wheezing, nausea, watery eyes, coughing and burning sensation in the eyes, nose and throat in the short term and skin irritation, and as well cause cancer over a long time. Laboratory Scientists call off strike

The Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists has called off its strike following a meeting with the Parliamentary committee on Health. President of the Association Dr. Abu Abudu Rahamani said he hopes with the intervention of the committee, the issue will be resolved quickly. He has therefore asked members of the Association to resume work. The industrial action started from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on May 20, when medical Laboratory Scientists and allied professionals protested against the decision of the Management to post two doctors to work in their Unit. Achimota School to appeal court ruling on Rasta student

The Governing Board of the Achimota School has instructed lawyers of the school to file an appeal against the court ruling which ordered that the two Rastafarian students, Oheneba Nkrabea and Tyrone Marhguy who were denied admission into the school, be admitted. The Board said it disagrees with the ruling of the court which was delivered on Monday May 31. High Court orders Achimota School to admit Rasta student, Tyrone Marhguy

The Human Rights Court 1 Division of the High Court in Accra, has ordered Achimota School to admit Tyrone Marhguy, the dreadlock-wearing Rastafarian boy into the school. The Court in the same spirit directed Achimota School to also admit Oheneba Nkrabea, another Rastafarian student into the school. The saga has been ongoing since March 19, 2021, during which the two students have not been able to start academic work with their colleagues. They were placed at the school through the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) having satisfied the entry requirement by creditably passing their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
