Government engages missions on deportee rights

Although the government does not support irregular migration, it will ensure that citizens of the country who are facing deportation are handled with respect and dignity. In line with that, the government, through the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has begun talks with a number of foreign missions in the country to ensure that the human rights of Ghanaians who are deported from the various countries are respected as enshrined in the fundamental freedoms under the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. President Akufo-Addo Attends Swearing-In Of President-Elect Yoweri Museveni

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his capacity as Chairperson of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States, left Ghana on Tuesday, 11th May April 2021, to Kampala, capital of the Republic of Uganda, to attend the swearing-in of H.E. Yoweri Museveni, President-elect of Uganda.  The President was accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, and officials of the Presidency and Foreign Ministry. The President will return to Ghana on Wednesday, 12th April 2021, and in his absence, the Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, shall, in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution, act in his stead.

Audit Agency to block funds and prosecute officers for breaches

The Internal Audit Agency (IAA) has begun processes to block the disbursement of funds to institutions that refuse to submit their audit reports to the agency. Dockets on officers who have breached auditing structures leading to the nation losing money have been prepared and will soon be sent to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Attorney Generals’ Department for prosecution. The agency has also begun to publish the names of institutions that fail to submit their quarterly internal audit reports to the public financial watchdog, in accordance with the law. A/R: 30 wooden structures destroyed by fire at Krofrom

About 30 wooden structures have been destroyed in a fire at a slum at Krofrom, in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi. Fire officers have begun investigations into the fire which started at about 2:00am on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. The exact cause of the fire is not yet known. The Manhyia District Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, D.O 1 Amos Abban, confirmed the incident to Citi News. “We received a distress call at 02:11 am that there was a fire outbreak at Krofom. We dispatched our first engine to the scene and when we got there, we realized that we needed another engine to support the first one, so we called for another engine to come in.
