The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Henry Quartey has said he would go all out to make ‘Accra Work’ again and no special treatments would be given to anyone due to their status in society.
According to the Minister, all unauthorised structures and buildings on water ways that could lead to flooding wound be demolished without fear or favour.
“The trian has taken off and as long as you remain a passenger, when we get to your place, the trian will stop and pick you. So any building on water ways would be demolished no matter who it belongs to,” he stated.
He made this comments yesterday after visiting a ramsar site area at Lashibi in Accra where structures close to the site and marked to be on water ways were demolished by the National Disaster Management Organization(NADMO) with support from the Tema West Municipal Assembly.
The exercise affected a washing bay(demolished last week) and and three bedroom house belonging to the Lashibi Assemblyman,Mr Shaibu Kabore which was demolished yesterday following a directive from the Minister.
The Minister said, demolishing the Assemblyman’s building was to serve a deterrent to all and assure Ghanaians that no one would be left out as far as demolishing unauthorised structures were concerned.
“We would not engage in any form of selective demolishing as that would defeat our purpose. As long as we find out the buildings are not well situated, we must pull them down no matter who it belongs to,” he stressed.
He however commended the Assemblyman, Mr Kabore for demonstrating high leadership qualities which everyone must emulate.
“He decided to be proactive by coming over to remove the roofing over the weekend and gave us his blessings to do this exercise and everyone occupying sensitive positions in this country will take a cue and emulate his examples,” he stated.
He added that, they would continue to collaborate with the Tema West Assembly to carry out other demolishing exercises within the area as well as other parts of the country.
The Lashibi Assemblyman called on other persons in high positions especially opinion leaders to support the Minister to do a great job in the capital.
“We need to lead by example and work together with the Minister to make the capital work again as directed by Preisdent Nana Akufo Addo,” he stated.
