GPL: Goalkeepers steal show as Asante Kotoko, Hearts game ends in a draw

Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak played out an exciting 0-0 draw in the Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday. The goalkeepers for the two teams, Richard Atta and Razak Abalora, stole the headlines, each saving a penalty in the game played behind closed doors  because of the COVID-19 restrictions. It took only three minutes to see the first big chance of the game. Fabio Gama’s pinpoint pass found Kwame Poku through on goal for Kotoko, but Nuru Sulley’s attempt to win the ball back failed spectacular, with his clumsy challenge bringing down Poku in the box and the penalty awarded. 3 Mourners, Fire Officer Die in Gory Accident

Three persons including a Fire Service Officer have been reported dead after a crash involving a KIA Mighty truck on the Assin Nyankomasi road in the Central region. According to an eyewitness report, the other victims in the truck were on their way to a funeral at the Assin Nyankomasi where the incident happened. “The driver lost control of the steering wheel and landed it in the bush. Meanwhile the bodies have been deposited at the morgue whilst the survivors who sustained various degrees of injuries are receiving treatment at the St. Francs Hospital ” he narrated.

Nigeria: Gunmen release 27 teenage boys who were kidnapped from boarding school

Pupils kidnapped from a boarding school in Nigeria alongside members of their family and teachers have been released, an official has confirmed. All 42 people, including 27 teenage boys, 12 of their relatives and three staff members were freed on Saturday by gunmen who had been holding them hostage since 17 February. GFA introduces division one league Super Cup at end of season

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) will introduce a new cup competition for Division One League clubs at the end of the 2020/21 season. The Super Cup is for the three winners of each zone plus the two third best placed teams at the end of the season. This is an Executive Council decision taken on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at a meeting in Accra. The reason is to give clubs more games outside the League by adding to the limited number of games that are played in the course of the season. Division One League clubs play a maximum of 30 League games plus a maximum of seven games in the MTN FA Cup. Winners of the three Zones qualify for the Ghana Premier League.

COVID-19: Savelugu Hospital to begin operations on March 1

The Savelugu Hospital, which was closed down due to covid-19 infection among hospital staff, would resume full service on Monday, March 1, 2021. This follows the successful fumigation of the facility. The decision was reached at a review meeting held on 26th February, 2021 to deliberate on modalities to resume full service delivery. Present at the meeting were the Deputy Director Clinical Care, the Deputy Director Public Health, the Municipal Director of Health, Hospital Management, Unit Heads and Covid-19 Team Leaders. It would be recalled that the Savelugu Hospital was closed to the public on February 22, 2021 after 64 staff tested positive for Covid-19.
