I will not play for free – Asamoah Gyan informs Asante Kotoko

Asamoah Gyan has stated categorically that he will not play for boyhood club Asante Kotoko for free amid interest from the Ghanaian giants. Gyan, 34, is currently a free agent since leaving Indian Super League fold NorthEast United earlier this year. He has never hidden his desire to don the Porcupine shirt before calling time on his playing career. Last month, media reports went rife that the former Sunderland player's high salary demand has proven a stumbling block to a deal thus far. Gyan has remarked emphatically that though he loves the Reds, he will not play for the club for free. “I have said on countless occasion that I have Kotoko at heart, I have also said I will play for them before I retire from the game. As I’m without a club there were speculations that t...

Boxing judge investigated for looking at phone during fight

The British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) has launched an investigation on English ringside boxing judge Terry O'Connor who is alleged to have looked away from the fight he was judging on Saturday. Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn questioned whether O'Connor was looking at his mobile phone while scoring Lewis Ritson's controversial win over Miguel Vazquez at the East of England Showground Arena on Saturday. Hearn tweeted a picture of the incident and wrote: "If that's a phone (and I presume it is) then then BBBofC should immediately remove him." The boxing judge, also a top referee who has officiated multiple world title fights, scored the fight to Ritson, who won a split decision over Mexican Vazquez in Peterborough. Chelsea manager Frank Lampard questions impact of injury to Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has questioned to what extent Liverpool will be affected by the absence of Virgil van Dijk. Van Dijk will undergo surgery on a damaged anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee having been the victim of an unpunished x-rated challenge from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in Saturday's Merseyside derby at Goodison. While Liverpool are reluctant to rule the defender out for the season, the player is facing a lengthy period on the sidelines. The injury leaves Joel Matip and Joe Gomez as Liverpool's only two recognised senior centre-backs, with midfielder Fabinho a makeshift alternative. But while admitting any team would miss Van Dijk, Lampard has suggested the Reds could have the strength in depth to cope with the Dutc...
