MLGRD, ILGS launch nationwide orientation and training programme for assembly members

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) and the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS), have launched an orientation and training programme for members of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs)in Accra. It is part of efforts to build capacities of newly elected and appointed district assembly members (AMs); education and training is a key demand for effective job performance. The roles that have been assigned to them in the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) requires that they demonstrate certain leadership qualities and traits, as well as mobilise the residents for participatory governance at the community level. Beirut Explosion: Ghana consoles Lebanon

Ghana has consoled Lebanon over the chemical explosion that rocked the port of Beirut, on Tuesday, 4th August, leaving at least 154 people dead, over 5,000 injured and 300,000 rendered homeless. The Ghana Government COVID-19 Advisory team will on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, organize a workshop for the handlers of four national teams ahead of their camping. The workshop will be organised for team doctors, physiotherapists, essential service providers and welfare officers of four national teams, namely Black Satellites (U-20), Starlets (U-17), Maidens (U-17, female) and Princesses (U-20, female). Members of the GFA Medical and Security and Safety Committees will also be part of this workshop. Sharia court sentences singer to death for blasphemy

A Sharia court in the state of Kano on Monday said it had found a 22-year-old musician, Yahaya Aminu Sharif, guilty of using derogatory expressions against the Prophet Mohammed in one of his songs and sentenced him to death by hanging. Sharif had reportedly circulated the song on WhatsApp in March, prompting angry demonstrators to burn down his family house. President Akufo-Addo cuts sod for €68 million La General hospital redevelopment project

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has cut the sod for commencement of construction of the La General Hospital Redevelopment Project. At the sod cutting ceremony on Tuesday, 11th August 2020, President Akufo-Addo indicated that the redevelopment project has been occasioned by a report from the Ghana Health Service, which indicated that the five-storey structure of the Hospital had developed gaping cracks, which made the facility unfit for use.
