Rawlings mourns Edem Kodjo

Former President Jerry John Rawlings was in Lome, Togo on Sunday August 30 to commiserate with the family of Édouard Kodjovi Kodjo, popularly known as Edem Kodjo, a former Secretary General of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) and later Prime Minister of Togo, who passed away in April. The former President who was received in Aflao by Togolese Minister of Security, General Yark Damehane, Prof Robert Komlan Edo Dussey, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Togolese Abroad and officials of the Ghana Embassy in Lome, also paid a courtesy call on President Faure Gnassingbe of Togo. Mali protest movement proposes 2-year transition to civilian rule

The protest coalition that campaigned against former Mali president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita has proposed that the military junta that ousted him organise a transition to civilian rule within 24 months, one of its leaders said Sunday. Military rulers received representatives of the June 5 Movement at the Kati barracks near Bamako late Saturday, after announcing they would postpone a meeting with civic groups, political organisations and former rebels on the transfer of power due to "organisational reasons". The Acting President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Henry Bessa Simons, has revealed that the union will soon implement programmes that will help reduce the increased rate of music piracy in the country. Mr. Simons said music piracy had existed in the Ghanaian music industry for over three decades with no signs of being tackled by the copyright office which was established by the government to fight piracy. According to him, MUSIGA will soon launch an Anti-Piracy Team to educate the public and create awareness about the negative impact of piracy on the music industry. Black Panther director Ryan Coogler has written a long and loving tribute to the film's star Chadwick Boseman, who has died aged 43. "Chad was an anomaly. He was calm. Assured.
