EC dismisses two registration officers in Savannah Region

The Electoral Commission (EC), has dismissed two registration officials in the Savannah Region for allegedly illegally registering residents in a community in Tamale. The Commission said it had also commenced investigations into the alleged illegal activity of the two temporary officers to ensure that they faced the full rigors of the law. In a statement issued by the Commission and copied to the Ghana News Express in Accra, the Commission expressed concern over the acts of misconduct on the part of two temporary Registration Officials. “The Commission is currently working with the Security Agencies to ensure that the suspects are made to face the full rigorous of the law,” the statement said. Ghana Railway Development Authority demolishes structures along rail line

 The Ghana Railway Development Authority in the early hours of Friday demolished structures in Tema to make way for the 92 kilometre Tema-Mpakadan Railway Project.  The makeshift structures situated in the Tema Industrial Area, were pulled down leaving hundreds of squatters stranded. NABCO trainees petition President for conversion of their job placements

The NABCO Trainees Association of Ghana (NABTAG) has petitioned President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to convert their job placements to permanent ones at the expiry of their three-year contract period. GBC staff protest planned closure of channels

Unionized staff of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), the state broadcaster, are asking the Government to rescind its planned closure of three of its six channels. “What the GBC needs is for the government to inject the necessary resources into the state broadcaster,  and retool it, rather than asking Management to reduce the channels by half, with some few months ahead of general elections,” Mr Sam Nat-Kevor, the Divisional and Local Union Chairman for GBC, said in Accra. The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has advised the staking public  not to fall victim to the operations and activities of lotto fraudsters who are using different platforms and communication strategies to defraud unsuspecting Ghanaians. Police arrests landlord for butchering tenant to death and, wife

The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested Adjei Boye, a landlord at Manhean for allegedly murdering his tenant by butchering him with a cutlass. Boye reportedly also hacked the wife of Kweku Abu, 38, the deceased with the same cutlass causing injuries to her head. COVID-19: Ghana records five more deaths

The Ghana Health Service has announced that five more patients have succumbed to the COVID-19 disease, increasing the country's death toll to 144. Additionally, 447 new cases of infections have been recorded, bringing the cumulative case count to 26,572. The latest update by the country's health management body via its designated website, also said 195 persons had recovered or been discharged, bringing the total recoveries to 22,915 from a previous 22,720. Active case load now stands at 3,513.The new infections were recorded in seven regions with Greater Accra recording the highest infections of 283; Ashanti- 125 and Eastern- 14. The other regions included; Western- 12; Central- Nine; Volta- Three and Oti- One Currently, 25 cases are considered severe with eight patien...

Firemen battle blaze at Nantes cathedral in western France

Firemen were battling a fire that broke out early on Saturday morning inside the cathedral in the western French city of Nantes, the local fire service said on Twitter. TV images showed smoke coming out of the 15th century structure. The blaze comes just over a year after a major fire at the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, which destroyed its roof and main spire. Cecile Renaud, who works in a bakery facing the cathedral and alerted the fire services early on Saturday, told BFM TV she had seen huge flames inside the building. "It was a huge shock.
