Four Jailed 120 years on Robbery

Four persons have been jailed 120 years by the Nkawie circuit Court for committing robbery at Ahwerewa in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality. Yaw Agyemang 20, Karim Seidu 20 Anthony Oppong 24 and Enoch Awuah 18 (Small Scale Miners)  pleaded guilty and were convicted on their own plea. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Silvanus Dalmeida told the court presided by Mr Johnson Abbey that on June 26 this year at about 8:30pm,  the four conspired, armed with a single barrel gun and palm sticks ambushed near a hill between the Ahwerewa and Okoh main road awaiting any victim. MESTI stops operations of United Steel and others to address pollution challenges

The Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation has stop United Steel Company, a private steel manufacturing company, and some others from operating unless they provide a roadmap to address their poor pollution management. The others are, Rider Steel Company and Success Aluminum Limited all in the Free Zones Enclave, whose pollution was affecting other business operators in the catchment area. Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, the Sector Minister, last Tuesday gave the companies a one-week ultimatum to provide the Ministry with a roadmap to address the pollution challenges, which posed a threat to human lives. GBA calls for review of sanctions on failure to wear nose masks

The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has called for the review of punishment to be meted out to those who flout the mandatory wearing of nose masks. “Much as punishments ought to be meted out to persons who flout and contravene laws, the GBA is concerned with and finds the punishment imposed in respect of persons who breach Act 1012 and E1 164, harsh.” In a press release signed by Mr Anthony Forson Jnr, President and Mr Yaw Acheampong Boafo, Secretary of the GBA and copied the Ghana News Express, it said it had also noted, with concern, the growing number of confirmed cases of COVID -19 in the country. Arrest persons who flouted COVID-19 protocols at NPP Parliamentary Primaries-GMA

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has called for the arrest of persons who failed to comply with COVID-19 safety protocols during the New Patriotic Party's  (NPP) Parliamentary  Primaries.  The GMA condemned the lack of observation of the protocols,  saying such attitudes as exhibited did not help in the fight against the spread of the disease.  The GMA, in a press statement issued in Accra, on Tuesday, also said the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Identification Authority (NIA) should also be held accountable for the breach in safety guidelines in the ongoing distribution of the Ghana Card. GFA calls off 2019/2020 Ghana premier league season

  The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has canceled the 2019/2020 Football Season, after the Executive Council meeting on Thursday, June 30, 2020. The season has been on suspension since March 2020, following the outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic. The GFA was compelled to cancel the league following the decision of the government to sustain the ban on sporting activities since the outbreak of the pandemic. Again, other international bodies like the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has made adjustments to their activities with the major one as the cancelation of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.

Voters’ registration takes off smoothly in Northern Region

The mass registration of citizens for the compilation of the new voters’ register took off smoothly in the Northern Region on Tuesday albeit late at some registration centres. Citizens thronged the registration centres and waited patiently for their turn to get registered. Whilst some centres had security personnel, others did not have any and it was difficult to enforce the social distancing protocol, especially at centres that did not have security personnel. Valencia have sacked manager Albert Celades after only nine months in charge, while the club's sporting director Cesar Sanchez has resigned. Voro Gonzalez has replaced Celades as manager until the end of the season in what is his sixth spell as Valencia's temporary boss. He first took over in 2008 after Ronald Koeman's sacking and helped the La Liga side avoid relegation. Celades was named Valencia boss in September after Marcelino's sacking.
