Ghana records nearly 2,000 recoveries from COVID-19

Ghana has recorded 1,998 recoveries out of the total number of 6,683 confirmed cases of the novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), with 32 deaths.  The Savannah Region, which was among the three regions (Ahafo and Bono East) with no confirmed case, has recorded its first single case.  The Greater Accra Region has 4,798, Ashanti has 1,049, Central has 299, Western has 210, Eastern has 106, and Western North has 61. The Volta Region has a record of 47 cases, Northern has 36, Oti has 26, Upper East has 26, Upper West has 21, North East has two, and Bono has one. Five foreign nationals arrested for entering Ghana illegally

Five foreign nationals have been arrested for entering the country through an unapproved route at Hamile in the Lambussie District of the Upper West Region. The Upper West Regional command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) told the Ghananewsexpress in that the foreign nationals, who were all Burkina Faso nationals aged between 15 and 27 were arrested at the weekend on two motorbikes with registration numbers 32-UJ-6586 and 32-JW-5633 at Beat 2 unapproved route bordering Burkina Faso. Deputy Chief of Staff Donates Ambulance & Health Equipment to Suntreso Government Hospital in Kumasi

The Deputy Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye, over the weekend, donated an ambulance and other health equipment to the Suntreso Government Hospital in Kumasi.  The items included ambulance, hospital beds, infra red thermometer, metallic sterilizer, and other Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs).  He indicated that the deplorable nature of the hospital and due to lack of an ambulance for the facility informed his decision to make this donation to assist the hospital to deal effectively with emergency cases in the midst of the COVID-19 global pandemic. May Salary will be paid on schedule – CAGD

The Controller and Accountant-General Department has assured government workers that the salaries for the month of May 2020 will be paid on schedule without any delays.  The CAGD department, in a statement, urged the public to dismiss publications making rounds on various social media platforms of a supposed delay in the payment of May salary for government Workers. “Management wishes to assure the public that payroll run is ongoing and that salaries for the month of May will be paid on schedule” the statement said.

FDA destroys COA-FS drugs and other unwholesome products in Cape Coast

The Food and Drug Authority (FDA) has destroyed several quantities of confiscated COA-FS food supplements and other assorted products declared unwholesome to public health and safety. The Central Regional Office of the FDA destroyed four tons of items valued at GH¢54,300, including food products, drugs mainly herbal, orthodox, medical devices, and cosmetics. The Central Regional Director of FDA, Mr. John Odai-Tettey, the Regional Director of the Authority disclosed in an interview with the Ghana News Express.
