Ghana’s approach to managing COVID-19, one of the best globally’

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has described Ghana’s approach to managing the COVID-19 pandemic as one of the best globally. “Our policies are working,” he said, and entreated the citizenry to work assiduously to maintain the current status quo regarding the maintenance of personal hygiene, social distancing and the mandatory wearing of nose masks. The President said the rapid execution of policies such as the ban on social gathering, and closure of schools and borders had resulted in “our low COVID-19 infection, hospitalisation and death rates - some of the lowest in Africa and the world.” Ghana, as at Sunday, May 17, has recorded 5,735 confirmed cases, with 1,754 recoveries and 29 deaths, according to the Ghana Health Service’s portal on COVID-19. Mechanic jailed one year for stealing rail metals

The Assin Fosu District Court has sentenced a 29-year-old mechanic to one-year imprisonment for stealing four lines of rail tracks. The tracks belong to the Ghana Railway Company at Assin-Fosu in the Assin Central Municipality of the Central Region. Daniel Dadzie, alias Yaw Donkoh, was said to have stolen the four feet long pieces of the fixed railway metals, yet to be valued, and bolted on seeing the police. He pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea by the Court, presided over by Mr Abdul Majeed Illiasu. Police Inspector Gilbert Ayongo, prosecuting, told the Court that the complainants were members of the Fosu Divisional Police Command Patrol Team. President Akufo-Addo welcomes Asantehene’s decision to release lands for health development projects

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has lauded the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, for his decision to release lands to the government to develop  health projects for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi. “One of the critical challenges confronting Teaching Hospitals in the country has to do with the unavailability of land for future expansion,” the President noted. Tutukpene banished boy returns

A 17-year-old boy who was banished by the Tutukpene community in the Nkwanta South District of the Oti Region, has returned to the town. Andrews Amoah, a primary six pupil of the Tutukpene M.A. Basic School was on April 24, 2020, expelled from the community by the chief and elders over an alleged break-in. The Police, soon after, demanded the chief to produce the boy in two weeks.  Mr Innocent Komla Agblosu, the Municipal Social Welfare Officer told the Ghana News Express that the boy was found at Abotoase in the Biakoye District, having journeyed on foot from Tutukpene to Kadjebi before boarding a charcoal hauling truck. Snakes, Scorpions and reptiles torment nurses at Nyankumase CHPS Compound

Nurses at Nyankumase Community Based Health Planning Services (CHPS) in the Upper Manya Krobo District of the Eastern region have become snake hunters as they are troubled by the invasion of the deadly creatures at the facility including reptiles. Three big snakes have been killed this year after invading the premises of the facility. The Health workers say “the number of Scorpions killed are uncountable “. Chinese ambassador to Israel is found dead in his home

China's Ambassador to Israel, Du Wei, was found dead inside his official residence Sunday morning, a spokeswoman for Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs told CNN. At this stage, the 57-year-old's death is not being treated as suspicious.
