President Akufo-Addo welcomes Asantehene’s decision to release lands for health development projects

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has lauded the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, for his decision to release lands to the government to develop  health projects for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi. “One of the critical challenges confronting Teaching Hospitals in the country has to do with the unavailability of land for future expansion,” the President noted. The government, consequently, had tasked the Health and Defence Ministries to hasten ongoing discussions between the Asantehene and the Board of Directors, KATH, for the possible release of the military land, and also relocate the barracks. President Nana Akufo-Addo, who was addressing a ground-breaking ceremony in Kumasi, to reactivate works on the KATH Maternity and children’s Block, said the aut...

Mesut Ozil: Former Arsenal boss Unai Emery criticises midfielder’s attitude and commitment

Unai Emery has criticised Mesut Ozil's "attitude and commitment" during his time as Arsenal head coach and says the rest of the squad did not want the German to be captain. Emery was sacked in November after the club suffered their worst run of form since 1992 and was initially replaced with Freddie Ljungberg before Mikel Arteta was handed the job permanently. Mesut Ozil was rarely trusted as a regular starter during Emery's reign and made just one Premier League appearance in the first 10 games of the season, but his former boss insists he tried his best to help him. "I spoke a lot with Mesut Ozil," Emery told The Guardian. "He has to be self‑critical too, analyse his attitude and commitment. "I tried with all my might to help Ozil. Throughout my career, talented players ...

Coronavirus could cost top-flight European clubs £3.5bn

Top-flight European clubs stand to lose more than £3.5bn because of Covid-19 even if the major domestic leagues and competitions reach their conclusion. The figure, across this season and next, was outlined in a meeting of stakeholders within the game last week. It is estimated if the competitions failed to reach their conclusions, the figure would rise to more than £6.2bn. The German Bundesliga resumed on 16 May while the Premier League is aiming to restart on 12 June. The eye-watering sums explain why so much work is going into plans to complete all the competitions - and start next season's, including the logistical difficulty of organising 203 two-legged qualifying ties involving all 55 Uefa nations, to be completed before the middle of October. Despite speculation...

Chinese ambassador to Israel is found dead in his home

China's Ambassador to Israel, Du Wei, was found dead inside his official residence Sunday morning, a spokeswoman for Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs told CNN. At this stage, the 57-year-old's death is not being treated as suspicious. Police are outside the ambassador's residence in Herzliya -- to the north of Tel Aviv -- as part of standard procedure, the spokeswoman said his death comes less than a week after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Jerusalem, openly criticizing China's actions during the coronavirus pandemic, as well as calling on Israeli leaders to stop signing major infrastructure and communications deals with Chinese companies. There has been no comment on the ambassador's death from the Chinese embassy in Israel or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in B...
