Allotey Jacobs unperturbed about suspension from NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended a senior member of the party, Benard Allotey Jacobs. However, the outspoken NDC member, who describes himself as a "social commentator" appears untroubled with the party's decision. A statement from the party signed by the National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, said the party suspended Allotey Jacobs for his “anti-party conduct” The statement said the party’s Functional Executive Committee acting on behalf of the National Executive COmmittee of the NDC at a meeting held today took the decision. It said Mr. Allotey Jacobs’ suspension has been referred to the Disciplinary Committee of the party for further action to be taken. Sekondi fire update: Two year old boy burnt to death

A two-year-old boy trapped in a fire outbreak near a fuel station this afternoon at Apremdo in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis in the Western Region has been burnt to death.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation. However, according to reports, the fire occured at a time two diesel tankers were waiting to discharge diesel at a fuel station in the area. The fire burnt the fuel tankers and spread to nearby shops where the young boy was. Officers from the Ghana National Fire Service have managed to bring the situation under control but struggled in the beginning because their tenders run out of water. They had to wait for a while before a backup tanker arrived to help douse the flames.

Government presents PPEs to the Media

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, through the Ministries of Information and Health has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to support the media in the fight against COVID-19 in the country.  The donation included 5000 pieces of locally manufactured face masks and 5000 pieces of hand gloves.  The donation was in fulfillment of part of a request made the leadership of media bodies to the President to support frontline media workers with PPEs when he engaged them as part of the COVID-19 response programme. Rampaging youth at Tevikope free suspect, set community ablaze

Enraged youth of Tevikope and Dokpo in the Adaklu District have deployed brute force to set one Asigbey Kudzo, a theft suspect, in police handcuff free. The youth also besieged Kudzokope, the cottage of the complainant and set it ablaze, damaging motorbikes, dispersing herds of cattle with gun shots and causing injury.  Superintendent of Police, Mr Anthony Danso, Ho Municipal Police Commander, who confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency said the Police received a complaint from Mr Emmanuel Bello, a cattle ranch owner over theft of cows from his kraal, on April 29, this year, which investigation led to the arrest of the herdsman.  He said the suspect mentioned Asigbey Kudzo as the fellow who convinced him to steal the animal so the proceeds could be shared between them...

Italian giants Juventus have announce that Argentine forward Paulo Dybala has recovered from Covid-19. The player underwent a double check, which saw him test negative Paulo Dybala performed, as per protocol, a double check with diagnostic tests (swabs) for Coronavirus-Covid 19, which came back with negative results. The player has, therefore, recovered and will no longer be subjected to the home isolation regime.

2020 football season remains suspended-GFA

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announce that the 2019/20 football season remains on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The football season has, since March 16, 2020, been suspended until further notice following government’s ban on all public gatherings. The Executive Council at its meeting on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 decided that the status quo remains, stating that the Association is in various engagements with Government, the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Health Service, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the GFA Medical Committee, CAF and FIFA. We have not engaged anybody for recruitment-GSS

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has informed the public that the Service has not engaged any person or institution to recruit or update the records of any applicant for this year's population Census. The service has advised all applicants for jobs in the 2020 Population and Housing Census that the service did not operate a Mobile Money account and did not charge any processing fee for recruitment. A statement from GSS and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra urged the public to beware of fraudsters who called or texted messages demanding money for recruiting or training of census field workers. "We entreat all applicants for the census exercise to cross check any information they receive in respect of recruitment for the Census", the statement added. Source GNA
