NPP member of parliament Daniel Okyem Aboagye is reported to have gone berserk in his constituency in a rambo style beating and calling delegates who he perceives as his opponents to threaten them with assault and juju.
The incumbent MP’s recent attempt to denigrate the President of the country Nana Akufo-Addo appears to have hit a raw nerve which has seen his supporters defect. in droves with some abandoning him to his faith
The MP is alleged to have stated in his meetings with delegates that he has failed as an MP because the president have failed so if he is being rejected the president Nana Akufo-Addo should also be rejected in the 2020 polls.
This did not go down well with delegates and they believed the MPs poor performance had nothing to do with the president whom they hold in high esteem.
Some delegates descended on him on various Bantama whatsapp platforms hurling unprintable words at him which seems to have enraged him.
The Sofo Line Police Station in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region has commenced investigations into one of cases of assault brought against the Bantama MP Daniel Okyem Aboagye.
The Complainant, Julius Kyei Sekyere in an exclusive interview, Mr. Sekyere confirmed being assaulted by the incumbent MP on Sunday morning.
“Yes it’s true he assaulted me near our Church at Adoato so I’ve been given a Police Medical Form”, narrated Julius.According to him, he was around his Church premises (Adoato Christ Apostolic Church) when he saw the MP in the company of another person near the church’s building.
“As my MP, I approached and greeted him. Without any provocation, he started hurling insults at me for not joining his campaign as he seeks re-election.
I therefore told him I couldn’t join his camp and before I could say jack, he hit me”, Julius narrated his ordeal.They were separated by passersby as it could have turned bloody.
The Pastor of Christ Apostolic Church at Adoato who happened to witness the assault on his Church Member, called Mr Okyem Aboagye aside in an attempt to calm him down.In another development, The MPs campaign staff stormed Nimo Pharmacy a popular pharmacy shop in the constituency in an attempt to deal ruthlessly with it’s owner an elder Mr. Nimo whom they perceived to have lead most of the elders and statesmen in Bantama and Ashanti region to shy away from the embattled MP but met his absence.
A audio recording is also in circulation on various whatsapp platforms has a lady claiming that Mr Okyem Aboagye has vowed to deal ruthlessly with her for not joining his campaign.
However, we can not independently verify the content of the video recording by the lady Nana Ama Achiaa who claims to be a Delegate.
Hon. Okyem Aboagye who defeated then incumbent MP, Henry Kwabena Kokofo who had served just one term in office, is waging a political war of his life to return to Parliament in 2021.
However, his campaign has been rocked with several controversies and missteps with delegates vowing to change him for not being able to live up to the standards of an MP from the constituency as well as not fulfilling the promises he made to them.
The New Patriotic Party is yet to set a date for it’s primaries to select candidates for it’s “mother” constituencies.
