37-year-old Illegal miner trapped to death at Akyem Mampong

A 37-year-old illegal miner has lost his life after being trapped in a mining pit at Akyem Mampong in the Eastern Region. The illegal miner, Abdul Razak Bempong, a resident of Akyem Mampong, was said to have gone with a group of illegal miners to the mining pit at Gold Bank Mining Limited where they mined until the pit caved in. The others were said to have escaped with minor injuries but Bempong who sustained serious injuries on the head, face, limbs and body was rushed to the Enyiresi Government Hospital where he died shortly upon arrival. COVID-19 positive cases rise to 30 in Volta Region

A total of 19 more persons in the Volta region have tested positive to the novel coronavirus disease, bringing the total number of cases in the region to 30 as at May 1, 2020. FDA to arrest vendors of unapproved nose masks

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has cautioned against the use of unapproved nose masks that has flooded markets across the country. Consequently, it has threatened to arrest all persons caught selling such unapproved nose masks to serve as deterrent to others. Mr John Odai-Tettey, the Central Regional Director of FDA, gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Friday. He indicated that using unapproved nose masks with the aim of fighting the Covid-19 pandemic could be detrimental to human health. The Community Child Protection Committees (CCPCs) have rescued 25 teenage girls from child marriage  in the Sissala East Municipality, Sissala West and Wa West Districts of the Upper West Region. Members of the committees revealed this at a monitoring visit by the Social Initiative for Literacy and Development Programme (SILDEP) to their various communities. Ghana’s confirmed COVID-19 cases now 2,169

Health Update COVID-19 Ghana's confirmed cases of COVID-19 has risen to 2,169 as of Saturday, May 2, from the 2,074 recorded at the last update of April 28.  The country also has recorded 18 deaths and 229 recoveries, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) latest update on the country's COVID-19 status indicates.  The Greater Accra Region continues to lead with the highest cases of 1,852. FDA seizes 1,285 unregistered products in Central Region

The Central Regional Office of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) had seized more than 1,285 unregistered assorted products in some parts of Central Region. The unregistered products were seized from herbal facilities, lorry stations, information centres and markets in Abura Asebu Kwamankese, Assin South, Assin Central, Gomoa West, Gomoa Central and Agona West. The markets were Agona Swedru, Mankessim, Agona West and Assin Fosu Markets.
