Ghana’s Parliament has approved an amount of ¢288.6 million tax waiver as incentive package for health workers in the country.
The purpose of the tax waiver is to motivate them in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID 19) outbreak in the country The waiver is on the emoluments of frontline workers for the months of April, May and June.
Additionally, COVID 19 front line health worker s will also enjoy special allowances for the period of March, April, May and June 2020. The tax waiver incentive for health worker was announced by President AKufo-Addo last month.
According to the President, front line health worker are to enjoy 50% of their basic salary as additional allowance without taxes.
The Finance Committee of Parliament, in its report on the waiver pointed out that the waiver will help encourage health workers and other frontline health worker taking care of infected victims.
The Ministry of Health has received the list of private workers across the country for vetting and inclusion in the tax waiver scheme, the report said.34
