Isaac Dogboe prepares for Mexican showdown

Former World Boxing Orgainsation (WBO) super bantamweight champion, Isaac  Dogboe, is leaving no stone unturned to ensure he becomes a world champion again. BoG issues first ‘Dedicated Electronic Money Issuer’ licence to Zeepay

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has issued its first Dedicated Electronic Money Issuer licence, to a local Financial Technology (Fintech) company, Zeepay Ghana Ltd. In a statement Thursday, the Bank of Ghana said the move is part of efforts to deepen financial inclusion in the country. According to the BoG, the licence authorizes Zeepay Ghana Ltd, to operate as a Dedicated Electronic Money Issuer, providing the following services: Cash In, Cash Out, P2P Transfers (Peer to Peer), Bill Payments, Airtime Top-Up and International Money Transfer (IMT). The Bank of Ghana has, therefore, reiterated its commitment to providing an enabling environment for Fintechs, industry players and other stakeholders, to operate in the payment services space in Ghana.

Trevor Cherry: England & Leeds defender dies, aged 72

Ex-England international defender Trevor Cherry has died "suddenly and unexpectedly" aged 72, his former club Leeds United have confirmed. The defender joined Leeds from Huddersfield in 1972 and won a league championship in 1974 and made 486 appearances for the club. He played 27 games for England, captained the side once and was part of the 1980 European Championship squad. Cherry, was also player-manager at Bradford, where he played 92 matches. He managed at Valley Parade from 1982 to 1985, with former Leeds team-mate Terry Yorath as his assistant. Cherry guided the club to the Third Division title in 1985, a promotion overshadowed by the tragedy of the Bradford fire disaster on the final day of the season, in which 56 supporters died when the main stand burned down. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the government is developing an exit strategy to return the country to normal life. The National Commission on Culture and the Creative Arts Council are demanding financial and logistical support from the government before they can support the COVID 19 campaign aimed at managing the spread of the pandemic. The two bodies met President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House in Accra this afternoon to discuss how stakeholders in the creative arts industry can help step up public education on the preventive measures. Woman arrested for possessing ‘wee’

A forty-two-year-old woman has been arrested by personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) at Asikuma Junction in the Volta Region, for possessing quantities of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana. The woman, Mavis Adubea, was arrested when she tried to outwit the GIS personnel by posing as a pregnant woman. Briefing the media here on Monday, the Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCI) in-charge of the Volta Region, Mr Peter Claver Nantuo, said on Sunday, April 26, the woman tried to outwit the personnel, who were stationed at the checkpoint at Asikuma, but was arrested. Battling COVID-19: Zoomlion disinfects Kotoka Airport…and 3 others in K’si, T’di, Tamale

Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL), through its Vector Control Unit, has ramp up in its efforts to support the central government’s battle against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In view of that, the company has fumigated and disinfected the country’s premier airport, Accra Kotoka International Airport, and three others in Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale. Confirmed COVID-19 cases now 1,671… 16 die, 188 recover

Ghana’s coronavirus case count has increased by 121 from the initial 1,550 bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1,671, the Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Patrick Aboagye, has announced.  The number of persons who have perished from the disease has increased by five bringing the total deaths to 16.   Taking his turn at the Ministers’ media briefing on the disease, code named Covid-19, in Accra yesterday, Dr Aboagye said 188 persons have recovered from the disease adding that “there are more patients waiting for their second tests to be discharged”.  Currently about 1461 are well and have no symptoms and are responding very well to treatment, Dr Aboagye said.  “We have about six who are moderately to critically ill.&nbs...
